Brooks City-Base
A former U.S. Air Force facility located on the southeast side of San Antonio between I-37 and 410, Brooks Air Force Base was renamed Brooks City-Base in 2002 when it was transferred to the Brooks Development Authority as part of a joint local, state, and federal redevelopment project with the goal of turning the base a center for science, technology, and business.
Brooks Neighborhoods
With the transformation of Brooks and the numerous renewal projects in the downtown area, many individuals choose to live in one of the many newly revitalized historic neighborhoods of San Antonio, like that of the King William District. For those who want a taste of city living, but not the whole urban experience, living a bit farther southeast of the city in Wilson County is just the ticket, with budding communities such as Abrego Lake or Eagle Creek Ranch, just 4 miles south of Loop 1604.
Brooks Parks and Recreation
If you are looking for a good time, take the short drive into downtown San Antonio and visit the crazy Buckhorn Saloon & Museum. With its sometimes wide-ranging and sometimes bizarre collection of cowboy memorabilia, along with shooting gallery, arcade, and Wax Museum Of Texas History, the Buckhorn Saloon is hard to beat. For a different slice of San Antonio history, visit the historic art village of La Villita, San Antonio’s first neighborhood. Over the decades, the neighborhood has been home to a variety of European cultures, each helping to push its evolution from a simple, primitive settlement into what it is known as today – San Antonio’s art district.
