Medical Center
The South Texas Medical Center is located on the city’s northwest side and boasts 900 acres of medical-related facilities, which serve 38 counties across Texas and includes such institutions as the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the University of Texas Health Science Center. The Medical Center not only employs around 28,000 workers in San Antonio, but it may also be considered the most culturally diverse section of the city, with restaurant cuisines ranging from African to Argentinean; Brazilian to Burmese.
Medical Center Neighborhoods
Situated on the west side of I-10 just north of interstate 410, some of the more popular neighborhoods surrounding the Medical Center are Shavano Park, the Woods of Shavano, and Castle Hills on the eastside of I-10; Hunter’s Chase and Regency Meadow to the north just inside Loop 1604, and the Arbor at Sonoma Ranch and the Dominion, north of the loop. In addition to these Northside ISD neighborhood schools, there are a number of private schools throughout area, including Antonian College Prep and the highly esteemed Texas Military Institute (TMI).
Medical Center Parks and Recreation
With the Texas hill country as a backdrop, and SeaWorld, and Six Flag Over Texas next door, the Shops at La Cantera and the Rim offer a variety of high-end shopping opportunities, with stores such as Neiman Marcus, Burberry, Cole Haan, and Tiffany & Co. Catching the latest Hollywood blockbuster at the Palladium takes movie going to a whole other level with its D-Box Motion Seats, mezzanine bar and gelato café. If sports are more your style then get in a round of golf at Oak Hills Country Club or head on over to the Fox & Hound Pub & Grill, O’Malley’s Sports & Spirits, or Hooligan’s Bar & Grill to catch a game and some hot wings with your buddies.
