Downtown San Antonio
Downtown San Antonio is most notably the home of the Alamo, Texas’ number one tourist attraction. The city’s center is easily accessed from highways 281, 90, 87 or I-35, which encircle the downtown area. In addition to the Alamo, downtown is home to four more Spanish frontier missions and a number of other historic sites, such as the Spanish Governor’s Mansion, and HemisFair Park, home of the Tower of the Americas and the Institute of Texan Cultures.
Downtown Neighborhoods
In recent years, downtown San Antonio has seen a renewal of many of its communities, such as the King William area. The city’s center is now ripe with urban lofts, condominiums, and townhomes. Downtown San Antonio is the perfect place for serious urbanites who prefer a more pedestrian lifestyle and want to take advantage of the rich arts and culture seen the city has to offer. Some of the most popular enclaves are the Judson Candy Lofts, the Alteza Luxury Condos on E. Market St., the townhomes and condos of Artisans Park, Riverview condos, and the Travis St. Lofts.
Downtown Parks and Recreation
There is always a good time to be had downtown at such attractions as the famous “Mercado” or Market Square, which plays host to an array of shops, as well as great restaurants like Mi Tierras. After a tour of the Alamo stop in next door at the historic Menger Hotel, host to such guests as Ulysses S. Grant, Robert E. Lee, Theodore Roosevelt, Oscar Wilde, and Babe Ruth. And, for fans of the stage, catching a performance at the exquisitely decorated Majestic Theater is a must.
